A Quiet Revoluton Grows in the Muslim World

In the Middle East, a quiet revolution is proceeding. In the past, religion has interfered in people’s life. It set up a lot of restrictions and even combined politics to be theocracy. Now, things change. With the same devout heart, the soft revolution has a great influence to the Islamic world. Islamic people become more liberal and they are willing to accept Western culture; moreover, they even expect that the Obama Administration can build a new relationship between Middle East and Western countries.
It is very lucky to be born in this generation. We have more chances and possibilities to contact with new things. I think Islam’s soft revolution is a good way to rethink the relationship between religion and people. It is not fierce but mild; therefore, people can accept the new aspect easily.
Compared to Taiwan, we tend to change things in a fierce way and sometimes it becomes serious conflicts; it is very pity that we don’t make good use of the resources we have, and it may give people some bad impacts. The more fierce revolutions are, the more injured and objections will be. This is the least thing we want to hear. Both the authorities concerned and our country people will listen to and accept our requests if we express our advice in a mild way. Just like Islamic world, if we express ourselves with gender voice, I think not only the government but also the youth would work together to make our country better.(250 words)

India's ultracheap car arrives with load of uncertainties

This is a hit news that I also read it in Tuesday’s United Daily News and it seems that the decline of the global economy has changed our shopping style. The depression influences our lives a lot and has changed our way of living. The restaurant industry has a hard time during this period, not to mention automakers. Many people tend to take the transportation or ride bicycles in order to reduce carbon emissions, and on the other hand, they can save a lot of money. Automakers have no means but develop low-cost compact cars to cater to the market.
Though developers claimed that these low-cost small cars have the great horsepower and it can run fast, many people still suspected whether it is safety or not. One driver said that the car is used only for city driving. Hence, I think we can’t buy it only due to its price; our safety should also take into consideration. Moreover, I read an article about the cars that the commentator said this fad is just a phenomenon in recession time. If economy becomes good, then these cars will lose its advantages. I think it makes sense. Maybe we can wait until the economy becomes better and see whether it is right or not.

A Web Awash in Liquor Ads, Promoting Moderation

Recently, the economy of the whole world is on the decline. No matter how hard the government and businessmen try, it seems that it only has a little effect and many people are in the difficulty time. Therefore, they try many ways to release themselves and one of the methods is drinking.
Whether the economy influences the phenomenon of drinking, alcohol abuse is an inappropriate behavior so that we should avoid it. In this article, it mentions some methods that can help people deal with the alcohol abuse problem. Also, there are a group of people that dedicate to the campaign about drinking in a moderation mode. They urge people not to over drink alcohol, even ask bartenders not to give consumers too much.
Furthermore, they notice that nowadays the younger generation also has the same problem, so they seek another way to promote moderation. They use the internet because the internet is the fast access to the youth. Through the internet, the youth must get the information and alert to their behavior. The campaign workers do not use a preachy way to tell people. They urge people gently so that people can accept their opinion easily. In my opinion, this campaign is very meaningful. The drinking habit in Taiwan is different from western countries. We usually drink a lot once while westerners like to sip, and I think this is the reason why many easterners get the liver disease. Maybe everyone will realize the importance of moderation when they know this campaign.

My Reaction:
According to James Meikle’s article” Food firms urged to make sources clearer”, it was said that all kinds of products should be stated clearly what ingredients of them and even where the products were produced should be told. Food companies and supermarkets must be more honest about where their food comes from, said Hilary Benn, the environment secretary. The expert also held a conference to discuss whether products were affected and demonstrated by labeling because the dioxins in pork revealed last month. Nowadays, people cared much about their health and they were thinking more about the quality, nutritional value and environmental impact of the food they ate. We could a detailed survey of house when you buy it; you could know the service history when you buy a car. Therefore, why couldn’t we know about what we were putting in our bodies? I think we consumers do have rights to know about it. If products are labeled clearly, it would increase the will of consumers to buy them. In addition, it is said that farmers should produce more homegrown fruit and vegetables. It can not only promote domestic agriculture industry but also is a method to protect the environment. This is a combination of buying products and environment protecting; therefore, I think everyone should do his best for we all live in the same world.

According to Natalie Tso’s article” China's Panda Diplomacy with Taiwan”, the democratic island China claims as its own, Beijing has sent the island a gift for the holidays: pandas. In order to welcome the charming ambassadors Tuan Tuan and Yuan Yuan, Taipei Zoo and other related people are well-prepared and well-trained for the new guests. In addition to sending pandas, there are also some differences between Taiwan and China after Ma Ying-jeou took office as Taiwan's new president in May. The two sides have put aside their ongoing sovereignty dispute to forge new economic ties, starting with key transportation links.
As far as I am concerned, I think the tow pandas sent to Taiwan is a great and important event between both tow countries, but if it contains so many political factors, maybe the authorities concerned should think twice before accepting the panda gifts. Now that they are already sent to Taiwan, it is too late to discuss acceptance or not, all we can do is to take good care of the pandas; after all, they are living creatures. The report says that the pandas are the gift to celebrate Christmas and New Year, but are they really suitable for Taiwan? For many years Taiwan has been restricted to participate in international organizations such as UN and WHO, since China wants to show its friendly to Taiwan, the best way maybe lift restrictions and that Taiwan participate in world affairs. This is the exactly gift we need.

According to the article” Scientists debunk the myth that you lose most heat through your head.” It is said that most of our body heat is lost through our heads. A cozy hat is obligatory in a cold winter’s day. However, closer inspection of heat loss in the hatless reveals the claim to be nonsense. The scientists have dispelled five other modern myths such like that sugar makes children hyperactive and that snacking at night makes you fat is on similarly thin ice, and some unwelcome news for those hoping to survive the festive excesses by turning to hangover cures. After reading this article, I think rumor is very terrible. Most beliefs are not true but most people will believe them instead of proving them, therefore, rumors spread wider and wider. For example, snacking at night will make you fat; there is one study showing that obese women tended to eat later in the day than slimmer women. But according to another article, "The obese women were not just night eaters, they were also eating more meals, and taking in more calories makes you gain weight regardless of when calories are consumed." As a modern citizen, I think everyone should have ability to judge the truth and false and therefore we won’t get lost in this splendid world.

According to Bryan Walsh, “The Greenest Celebrity in Hollywood.” , it is talking about the celebrities in Hollywood who dedicate to protect the environment. In the report it reveals that earth-friendly habits needn't preclude you from a rich lifestyle of award-winning film performances and rampant supermodel-dating. And what the celebrities do will have a big impact on audiences so that they want to use their effects through TV to influence people to be environmental friendly.
As far as I am concerned, this is really a good way to awake people to value the natural environment since people are used to follow the celebrities’ footsteps. The TV and film industry tends to be on the cutting edge of social change, from civil rights to the war in Iraq, and that's true when it comes to the environment as well. The greenest of the celebrities may be a name that's less known: Hart Bochner. Bochner co-stars in the USA Network drama The Starter Wife, featuring Will and Grace alumna Debra Messing. He is different from his celebrity peers that he's willing to do the anonymous, behind-the-scenes work to make the industry more environmentally friendly. And some of them try to persuade people to use the energy-saving machines instead of purchasing the brand name. I think this method really takes effects and it is everybody’s duty to do his best to protect the earth. After all, we have only one earth.
